People

Jan finds people to be fascinating subjects to paint, especially those dressed in their native attire or participating in cultural heritage events. She prefers ‘genre scenes’ capturing people going about their everyday life rather than formally posed. Her images are representational, three-dimensional and lifelike. For example, she captures “up close and personal” images of Middle Eastern tribal elders, Native Americans, African cultures, and various festival celebrations.

Places

Having traveled to 27 countries, Jan has seen much of the world to paint. She is particularly attracted to mountainous, wooded areas or aquatic scenes. Sometimes the most beautiful scenes are found in our own backyards.

Things

Ordinary objects become special when observed and painted by Jan. She enjoys the challenge shapes, color and texture presented in often overlooked, everyday items.
